Tener una recreativa en casa se ha convertido en algo barato y sencillo. No me refiero a emuladores, precisamente, ni siquiera a títulos como éste que incluye algunos de los juegos más famosos de los ochenta, sino a un mueble de casi dos metros de alto por uno de ancho y que incluye un monedero. Sí, la realidad es ésta, los salones recreativos cierran en todas las ciudades y miles de estos objetos de culto pasan a ocupar los rincones desnudos de multitud de hogares de nostálgicos. Pero claro, no todo el mundo puede llegar a casa con un bicho de esos y esperar que padres, esposas o caseras poco amistosas les den el visto bueno. Para solucionarlo, por la vía elegante, llega Taito Legends.

Tener Space Invaders a sus espaldas es algo que siempre ha parecido pesarle a Taito, que nunca ha dejado de ser una compañía con títulos de culto, pero que se han quedado a bastante distancia de ser devorados por las grandes mayorías, que se dejaban la paga en los salones recreativos. Bubble Bobble es uno de esos mitos, que sólo con decir esas palabras ya trae escalofríos a más de uno que ha soñado con burbujas durante largas noches de verano en la playa. Los años que han pasado no le han hecho mella y la emulación de la máquina original funciona de maravilla, como era de esperar, por otra parte.

La serie, que siguió con títulos como Rainbow Islands, del que recordaba que todo era mucho más difícil que ahora o Parasol Stara (que no está incluido en esta recopilación), está representada con una bibliografía que hará saltar alguna que otra lágrima. Y es que no se trata sólo de casi 30 juegos metidos con calzador, sino que puedes observar fotografías de las cabinas originales, una descripción en formato electrónico (la misma que puedes ver en la página web oficial) y algunas curiosidades más de cada título. Unos juegos están más cuidados que otros en este aspecto, pero no deja de ser toda una fuente de cultura videojueguil que, incluso, debería formar parte de los libros de texto (de historia del arte) dentro de algunos años.

Las entrevistas a nombres que lo fueron todo en los inicios y que ahora se ve dónde quedó su gloria, complementan los contenidos del DVD. No es que sea malo ser profesor de una asignatura sobre videojuegos, o que tu empleo consista en asesorar a una compañía desde un sillón, pero sin tomar parte en la acción de verdad, pero resulta obvio que Miyamoto sólo hay uno a estas alturas.

La selección de títulos no deja lugar a dudas sobre la existencia programada de una continuación, ya que se echan en falta títulos consagrados y que hacen gala del galardón de leyenda que contiene el producto en su portada.

Que haya un lavado en los gráficos, algo que ocurre en muchas de estas colecciones, no tiene por qué considerarse un fallo. Lo que no queda bien es que, aunque parezca que usa el motor de MAME para hacer funcionar ROMs originales, no haya posibilidad de alterar algunas características de los juegos, que los hagan más aptos para pantallas de distintos tamaños, por ejemplo.
